SCADA ENGINEER

South Central Indiana REMC (SCI REMC) is a not-for-profit electric distribution, member-owned cooperative.  The cooperative is a leader in distribution technology and is headquartered in a new and progressive facility in Martinsville, Indiana.  SCI REMC serves seven counties including Morgan, Monroe, Owen, Brown, Johnson, Putnam and Clay with over 3,542 miles of energized lines and 33,549 meters serving 28,007 members.  SCI REMC is also starting up a fiber division that will offer broadband services to its members’ homes and businesses.

 The general objectives for this position include:

 o   Provide technical oversight of SCADA system and integration to other software;

o   Maintain SCADA user screens and history;

o   Research and recommend, functional test, and commission new devices for DA;

o   Develop and maintain DA schemes;

o   Provide technical support to SCADA users

EDUCATION:  A four-year engineering degree, or equivalent is required. An electric or computer degree or similar is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:  One year of configuring and commissioning SCADA control systems with hands-on accountability.  Distribution coop utility experience preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A.      Must be able to demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects.

B.      Must be familiar with SCADA design for electrical power substations.

C.      Knowledge of digital microwave systems, fiber optic systems, VHF/UHF voice dispatch systems is preferred.

D.       Knowledge of Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations is preferred.

E.       Must have strong analytical and technological skills

  •  Able to gather relevant data using appropriate methodologies and analyze that data in such a manner that valid conclusions and insinuations can be drawn that assist in making important business decisions; embraces technology; appreciates and understands a high level of complexity, technology and innovation. 
  • Must have strong computer skills that include the knowledge of standard Microsoft Office software, Microsoft Access databases, Oracle databases, SQL, and Visual Basic.
  • Must have superior problem-solving ability to be able to apply systems-thinking to generate solutions; understands process but can focus on isolated events; obtains multiple assessments of a situation and identifies trouble spots; evaluates alternative solutions

F.       Must be able to provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to company personnel in the procedures and practices of communications and SCADA design and construction.

G.      Must prepare and vet contracts for the installation and maintenance of field communications systems and equipment.

H.      Must have the ability to communicate effectively with management, employees, members, and others.

I.         Must be available to supervise or assist in dispatch during emergencies.

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able to work effectively on a daily basis with a variety of individuals.
  • Must be able to tolerate stress and to remain calm and efficient and courteous under pressure.
  •  Must have and maintain valid drivers’ license.
  • Must be regular in work attendance.
